No, your kit does not have an expiration date.
While the kit does not have an expiration date, all kits must be registered and returned to the lab within six months of purchase.
Collection
You will need a clean, fresh sample. It can sit at room temperature for up to 24 hours prior to mailing. If you are unable to mail the sample within 24 hours, keep the sample in the freezer until you are ready to send.
Step 1:
Start by gathering your collection tools from your box including: a glove, poop bag, collection tube and wooden stick.
Step 2:
Affix your unique ID sticker to the collection tube.
Step 3:
Take your pet for a walk and as soon as they poop, collect the stool in the poop bag (try to keep the sample free of debris including grass and dirt).
Step 4:
Once you have the dogs feces in the poop bag use the spork (attached to the inside of the lid of the collection tube or the wooden stick to scoop enough poop to fill the collection tube up to the red fill line.
Step 5:
Once the collection tube is filled to the red fill line with poop, screw the lid tightly onto the collection tube.
Step 6:
Write your pet’s name and the date on the collection tube where it says “Patient Name and Date.”
Step 7:
Put the collection tube into the biohazard bag and close the bag.
Your pet’s poop should be solid or semi-solid for best results. If you are able to pick up the poop with a poop bag, we will be able to run the test.
Shipping
This only applies to tests purchased on the IPL website. If you purchased your test through one of our partners, please contact them directly.
Refunds:
- If you ordered a test, and it has not shipped, you are eligible for a 100% refund.
- If you have received your kit and it has been within 30 days of purchase, you are eligible for a full refund, minus a $10 handling fee.
- If it has been more than 30 days since your purchase, you are not eligible for a refund.

Yes, you need to activate and register your kit before you mail it back to the lab. Having your kit registered online is our way of tracking your pet’s poop sample and getting results back to you via email.

You should leave your dog on supplements. Continue what you’ve been doing and don’t make changes prior to the test
Do not stop your pet’s medication. Maintain their regular lifestyle.
You can absolutely send them to your pet care provider!

Your pet doesn’t need to be fasting before the poop collection.
A vet visit is not required to take this test. Part of our mission at IPL is to make pet health care accessible at home. All the items you need to take this test are included in your kit.
Your test results come with recommendations. However, IPL always advises and encourages you to work with your veterinarian.

Your results will be emailed to you. You can also log in to your IPL account (set up at registration) to access your results.
Your pet is doing well, consider rechecking in 6-12 months as a part of your dog’s routine health care. In addition this is good information to share with your vet.
